We are a private doctor

A private doctor (“Wahlarzt”) is a registered practician who does not have a contractual relationship with the patient’s health insurance provider. The term “Wahlarzt” (‘doctor of choice”) stems from the insured person’s (i.e. the patient’s) right to choose their doctor freely. A referral from another doctor is not necessary. Over half of all registered doctors are private doctors. Without them, it would not be possible to provide sufficient medical care in Tirol.

What can private doctors offer?

  • Services provided by public health insurance
  • All services which are not included in the public health insurance offering
  • Flexible office hours and shorter waiting times
  • Fewer patients per doctor and therefore more time for individual examinations and consultations
  • Accessible for all patients
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration by referral to specialists as required
  • Representation in all fields of expertise, including those which are not served by general practitioners

Extra-contractual services

Non-curative treatments are not covered by public health insurance (for example medical confirmation, patient decree, vaccination consultation and fees). These are charged as private treatments as per the fee recommendations of the Medical Association of Tirol.
